The Volvo D13 features 14 different power ratings ranging from 375 up to 500 horsepower. A new variable geometry turbocharger provides quick response to throttle inputs while improving fuel economy. Volvo offers two XE, integrated drivetrain ratings, as well as six Eco-Torque and three Dual-Torque ratings to allow customers to match engine performance to specific application requirements.

I like the D13 for a lot reasons: it’s a tough engine. But mainly I like the fuel economy we’re getting. A lot of that has to do with mating up with the Volvo I-Shift. That’s a pretty unbeatable package right there. We buy extended warranty. So I don’t see a whole lot of issues with the engine that Volvo doesn’t take care of. Really, we don’t have any issues outside of some after-treatment problems – but I consider that an exhaust issue and not an engine issue. We do all our routine maintenance and our technicians tell me it’s a very easy engine to work on.

Toyota Engine Manual

It’s a fine engine. It is very durable and extremely powerful. In fact, we have not had a single driver complain about lack of power since we brought Volvo into the fleet. As far as maintenance goes, we have not had a single maintenance issue with that engine outside of routine maintenance.
